Reflective writing

I had my last seminar today, which again was really helpful. We talked and reflected on the work we had done in the last four weeks, which helped us understand what worked and what didn't. It was really interesting to see what people had been up to recently as i hadn't had a seminar last week. What interested me in particular was seeing how people’s animatics came to life through their animation and their art style. Some of the animations were really long and developed which was incredible.

A technique that i noticed a lot of people do in my seminar was different colours for different animated parts - for example they drew the wings of a bird in red and the body in black. I think i will use this more often as it is a way of distinguishing different animated parts of the body without the lines merging into each other. I also saw how a lot of people used a copied frame and drew the parts that changed/moved which i thought was a lot more helpful than just redrawing the same frames slightly differently each time, which wastes a lot of time.

I also saw that a lot of people used the boiling technique in their animation whcih really made it come to life.

Overall, very interesting seminar as i saw how people animated their frames, and developed their stories more.

I animated the picking up the headphones scene which worked out really well. I was happy that it was quite smooth, as the character had the same face throughout, whcih meant it was a lot easier to keep it cohesive. The timing worked well aswell, and the frame rate was good. I also animated the getting on the bus scene, which was good. I used a running reference to understand how arms and legs move while running. When my character arrives at the bus, i did realise that there is quite an abrupt ending, which i may change as it does look a bit off. I’m not sure if i really like the running sequence as it doesn’t look as smooth as i want it to look. I would like to work on it more this week to make it smoother.
