Reflective writing

I am very grateful that i did an animatic before animating as it has helped me enormously. Each time there is a new scene to film, i draw the key frames and add them into my animatic. After this, i animate a skeletal figure of the movement of the character, which i add to replace the key frames in the animatic. Once I have finished animating the scene, i replace the skeletal animation with the finished animation. This enables me to edit the animatic step by step, and essentially use the same Adobe Premier document from the animatic right to the final animation.

This helps me a lot to keep to the timing correctly as i feel that timing in my project is especially important, as there are quickly changing scenes, and the images need to correspond to the sound/lyrics. In addition, as i am doing my editing step by step, i save on editing at the end, usually at the last minute, which means my final animation will hopefully be a lot more polished.

Overall, i am happy with the work i have produced this week, as although i was quite ill with covid at the beginning of the week, i managed to make up for some time lost by working productively towards the end of the week.

However, time management will be difficult as there are still around 12 seconds to animate of the first part of animation. I have managed to animate around 20 seconds in one week, which i am very surprised about, but very happy. I hope to finish the first part of the animation before the end of the week. I will continue working on the second part of the animation during the Easter break.

I am often thinking about what i should do for the second part of the animation as i would like to evoke a dream like feeling. I might add a mix of live action footage and non digital animation, as i feel it would create an interesting contrast with the cartoon animation used for the first half of the animation. I feel that especially live action film used to represent a dream in a cartoon world would be really interesting as it is the opposite of what is commonly used. Usually, we would experience life in ‘live action’ and dreams are more similar to cartoons. I would also like to create a sense of overwhelming to the audience as the music goes towards a crescendo, with fast moving and fast changing images. It is possible that i draw some references to The Beatles or music in general, as this would fit into my theme of music and identity, and what impact music can have on us. I need to do more research on the Beatles, by watching the Yellow Submarine film, as i am interested in the way they animated the music and characters. I also need to do more research on 1960s psychedelic art, as i would like to use it as an influence, as it central to the theme of the song.
